Postdoctoral Fellow – Synthetic Organic/Medicinal Chemist

The Center for Molecular Innovation and Drug Discovery (CMIDD) at Northwestern University has an immediate opening for a talented and motivated individual to carry out synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry research as a postdoctoral fellow. CMIDD is a university research center focused on advancing medicinal chemistry and drug discovery research for highly innovative and new targets for human disease.

The postdoctoral fellow will carry out research on projects centered around the discovery and development of new anti-cancer agents. The candidate will design new synthetic routes to prepare small molecules for biological testing and perform small molecule synthesis. The candidate will also assist in carrying out biochemical and cellular assays to evaluate new molecules they prepare including, for example, AlphaScreen, thermal shift, fluorescence polarization, and immunofluorescence assays. This position offers excellent opportunities for intellectual growth and is ideal for the candidate who makes independent and creative contributions in their work and wants to gain experience in a fast-paced industry-like environment.

A Ph.D. in synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry is required. Strong technical abilities in the synthesis of small molecules for biological testing and a solid understanding of the principles and methods of synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry are essential. Experience in running biological screening assays is desirable, or at least a strong motivation to learn these assay techniques. An understanding of protein target degradation strategies is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to engage in team-based research and collaboration are necessary. The ideal candidate will be able to manage multiple projects, balance both chemistry and biological techniques, and keep pace in a dynamic research environment.
