CMIDD OPEN POSITIONS

Postdoctoral Fellow (posted April 20, 2017)

The Center for Molecular Innovation and Drug Discovery (CMIDD) at Northwestern University has an opening for a talented and motivated postdoctoral fellow to carry out synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry research. CMIDD is a collaborative research center at Northwestern University that engages with faculty across the university to perform medicinal chemistry and drug discovery research for highly innovative new targets for human disease.

The postdoctoral fellow will perform small molecule synthesis and purification related to CMIDD projects and goals using modern synthetic techniques and parallel chemistry approaches. The postdoctoral fellow will have substantial synthetic experience and a strong knowledge of medicinal chemistry and drug discovery techniques. Familiarity with biological concepts is essential to integrate effectively with biologists at the University.

The fellow will carry out research on hit-to-lead efforts for a cancer drug discovery project at CMIDD. The candidate will design new synthetic routes to prepare small molecules for biological testing. This position offers excellent opportunities for intellectual growth and is ideal for the candidate who makes independent and creative contributions in their work and wants to gain experience in a fast-paced industry-like environment.

Required Qualifications:

PhD in synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry. Strong technical abilities in the synthesis of small molecules for biological testing and a solid understanding of the principles and methods of synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry are essential. Experience in drug discovery research and parallel synthesis is essential. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a desire to engage in team-based research and collaboration are necessary. The ideal candidate will be able to multi-task with multiple projects and keep pace in a dynamic research environment. Experience performing biological testing or biophysical studies is a plus.
